Milwaukee vs St. Louis Pick

MLB Baseball betting action sees the Milwaukee Brewers taking on the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday June 2nd at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO. Cappers Picks provides free MLB Baseball handicapping tips all season long.

Tuesday night’s match-up in the Gateway to the West is truly a “Haves vs. the Have-Nots”; the Brew Crew has been miserable in 2015 and the Cardinals have been excellent as usual.

The visiting Brewers (18-34) eked out a 1-0 victory yesterday versus the Red Birds, on the strength of a great pitching performance from Mike Fiers.

St. Louis, meanwhile, is leading the NL Central division by five games and is playing their usual brand of disciplined, team-oriented ball.

The Cards are enjoying a break-out year from 2B Kolten Wong, who joins SS Jhonny Peralta and OF Matt Holliday as those having great seasons thus far. No matter the turnover or new faces being promoted from the farm squad, St. Louis just seems to keep rolling every year.

Milwaukee likely dreams of that consistency, as it has shown flashes with its hitting and superstars like OF Carlos Gomez and Ryan Braun, without stringing it together for several years now.

The Brewers seem to suffer from the deadly combination of bad luck and inconsistency that plagues all bad ballclubs.

On Tuesday night, Milwaukee turns to unproven righty Tyler Cravy to take the mound. Anything meaningful the California native can provide would be welcomed by a sketchy starting five – “front of the rotation” starters Kyle Lohse and Matt Garza both have ERAs/WHIPs over 5.00/1.50, respectively.

Fifth starter Jimmy Nelson might be Milwaukee’s steadiest starting pitcher this season, and he hasn’t set the world on fire by any means (3.90 ERA, 1.17 WHIP).

Without the pitching to contend and little eye-popping in the lineup apart from the cocky Gomez and how platoon 1B Adam Lind hits lefties, the Brewers are probably snookered this season.

But hey – Cravy making his first start under the bright lights of Busch Stadium – maybe he is the type to rise to the challenge.

He’ll be squaring off against reliable veteran Lance Lynn, the de facto ace of the staff although the Birds also have John Lackey and Michael Wacha, who’ve been fantastic.

Pitching and reliable contributors like Holliday and C Yadier Molina is why St. Louis is perennially in the mix.

The randomness of a 162-game season definitely gives baseball a “anything can happen on any given night” component, but the metrics and the realities of the Central division (St. Louis first, Milwaukee dead last and 15.5 games back of the lead) don’t look good for the visitors.
